City of Tyler Outdoor Warning System

The City of Tyler is committed to the safety of all who live, work, or visit here. The Outdoor Warning System is another example of this commitment. The City of Tyler has 32 of these sirens erected at strategic locations within the City. If you are aware of a siren malfunctioning, please contact the Tyler Police Department at(903) 531-1000. View a map of the locations(PDF, 2MB).

The Outdoor Warning System is activated to alert the public of a specific situation that may occur. These warnings may be issued for specific geographical areas that may be affected. The Outdoor Warning System allows for both tone and voice alerts to the public. When the sirens are activated, people are encouraged not to call the Tyler Police Department but to turn on their radios or televisions for further information.

The specific situations are as follows:

Testing

The Outdoor Warning System is tested monthly on the first Tuesday of every month at 11 a.m. During the monthly test, a voice alert will indicate the system is in test mode, then a steady alert tone will be sounded for one minute, followed by the All Clear Tone.

The wavering Attack Warning tone will not be used for tests.

Natural (Tornado) and Technological Emergency Warnings

This type of warning may be issued to cover the following events: major natural disasters, errant domestic missile launches, reentering space debris, volcanic eruptions, major dam failures, and other hazards to public health, safety, and property that may threaten a wide area.

A Natural (Tornado) and Technological Emergency Warning siren tone will be transmitted for three minutes. A voice alert of instructions is then transmitted over the system.

Attack Warnings

Attack Warnings are issued when there is a threat of attack on the United States or portions of it.

An Attack siren will be transmitted for three minutes. A voice alert of instructions is then transmitted over the system.

Fallout Warnings

Fallout warnings are intended to warn of radiation hazards resulting from nuclear detonations, accidental mishaps, and/or terrorist incidents.

A Fallout Warning siren will be transmitted for three minutes. A voice alert of instructions is then transmitted over the system.
