The Tyler Police Department recognizes that the public should have accurate and truthful information concerning events that affect public welfare or public interest. The Department's media relations goal is to achieve the highest possible level of cooperation with members of the news media while projecting the best possible image of the Department.

The public should be informed of Departmental actions when it is possible to do so without interfering with the performance of vital emergency police services or jeopardizing the results of a police investigation.

It will be the responsibility of the Public Information Officer to coordinate and communicate directly, or through authorized personnel, information of public interest pertaining to major incidents of crime and other newsworthy police-related activities.

This information will be disseminated to the news media in a timely manner.
