The Patrol Division on midnight shift is under the direct supervision of Lieutenant Lee Plymail. Patrol is responsible for many functions of the department, including patrol, property and vehicle crimes investigations, and crime prevention.

The Tyler Police Department has divided the entire City of Tyler into six geographic districts. The Division is commanded by Assistant Chief Diana Jackson. One Lieutenant and several Sergeants are assigned to each shift and are responsible for the operations on the individual shifts.

 
Tyler Police Department has 7 patrol shifts:

• 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
• 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. 
• 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
• 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
• 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. 
• 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
